The results are in, but unfortunately only 7% of those who opened the email completed the survey. Maybe it was technical problems? I’m pleased to say that for the book trailer, pre-visualization, and AI-animated/cartoon movie 70% find it acceptable! 🙂

I have to admit, that the question about not paying the volunteer cast and crew, was deliberately worded badly. I am a person who normally volunteers my time, and I’m not used to asking people for help. I have a hard time even thinking of gathering a group of people together to record a video when I can’t afford to pay them, especially when there is another almost free option available. In any case, only 20% thought volunteers were acceptable, and 60% were unsure.

UPDATE: AI Book Trailer Video’s and AI Generated Animation/Cartoon dropped to 63%, AI Pre-visualization dropped to 56%, and Not Paying Cast & Crew dropped to 17%.

A few of you asked questions, which is great. In answer:

Yes, when I say unpaid, I mean volunteer, hopefully students who are getting a course credit.

And no, I don’t believe people should use AI to write books, and then pass it off as their own work.

This last round my beta readers all used AI and 90% of it was useless, and then wanted me to pay them for it, so I don’t plan on paying beta readers again. I can use the AI services myself and get the feedback I want. I’ll stick to the beta readers I have used in the past.

The AI video service I am looking at is not free, but it sounds like I can create a promo video for about $10, and an entire cartoon 90 minute movie for around $3,000. Then, they also host where you can buy that movie, and watch it on their streaming service as many times as you like. If I charge $11 (they keep 10% for hosting), then it would take me 300 sales to get my return on investment. Of course it would still have to raise that starting capital.
