What kind of oxymoron title’s his book “The Woundless War”
Honoring those who served so we might find better ways
Dear Friends,
This Veterans Day (Remembrance Day for our Commonwealth friends), I’ve been thinking about oxymorons.
Jumbo shrimp. Deafening silence. Military intelligence (sorry, couldn’t resist).
And now, “The Woundless War.”
What kind of oxy-moron would write a book with that title?
This one, apparently.
There has to be a better way
The Woundless War is about finding a better way. Not through trade wars (that’s just moving the wounds from bodies to wallets). Not through cold wars (that’s just postponing the wounds). But through the radical idea that maybe—just maybe—we can resolve our conflicts without anyone getting wounded at all.
Darkness can’t drive out darkness. Only light can do that.
The Real Battle
The real battle isn’t between nations or ideologies. It’s between our worst impulses and our best hopes. Between the easy path of hatred and the harder path of understanding. Between seeing “them” and seeing “us.”
Veterans fought for our freedom. What if we used that freedom to wage peace with the same commitment they brought to war?
This November 11th
At 11:11 today, I’ll observe that moment of silence. I’ll think of those who served, those who sacrificed, those who didn’t come home.
And I’ll think of the world they fought for—not the world of endless conflict they experienced, but the world of peace they hoped we’d build.
Maybe that makes me an oxy-moron. But if believing in a “woundless war”—a world where we resolve our differences without destroying each other—makes me a moron, I’ll wear that label proudly.
To all who’ve served: Thank you. Your courage inspires us to be brave enough to choose love over fear, understanding over ultimatums, peace over power.
Even when people call us oxy-morons for trying.
