Happy New Year!

I don’t know about you, but on New Year’s Day I move all of last year’s emails into a subfolder. It makes everything feel a little faster—and a little cleaner.

Review: MailerLite

MailerLite is a great service that keeps getting better. They offer many templates to get you started, allow up to 500 email subscribers for free, and are fairly easy to learn.

One copy per person

One thing I really like about MailerLite is that when I email multiple groups, it still sends only one copy to each person.

One of my advertisers has five different magazines. When they send updates, I get five identical emails. It’s annoying. MailerLite doesn’t do that, and I appreciate it—both as a sender and as a reader.

Unsubscribing

Earlier this year, I was honestly horrified when I told people they could unsubscribe from individual groups—and then discovered that clicking unsubscribe removed them from all groups, with no way to resubscribe unless they contacted me directly so I could remove the unsubscribed flag.

I’ve since enabled list-specific unsubscribe options, so you can step back from one type of content without disappearing entirely.

They also have a powerful Preference Center, but I found it to be a lot of work and mostly unnecessary for what I need.

Heads-up: if you choose “Unsubscribe from All,” that email address can’t be re-subscribed unless you contact me. MailerLite says this is to prevent spam complaints, which I understand—especially in cases where someone might sign up using someone else’s email address.

Anti-spam

One nice thing about their strict anti-spam policy is that emails usually get through. When I join other newsletters, I often find them in my spam folder. I don’t think that happens very often with MailerLite.

Automatic emails when someone subscribes

They also offer forms, e-commerce tools, and integrations with services like Stripe, WordPress, and Shopify.

Conclusion

MailerLite has everything I need.

Looking ahead

I want you to know that I’ve started writing Vol. 2. I already have a good foundation from material written before I went back and cleaned up Vol. 1.

Writing a series of novellas, combining them into a novel, and then synchronizing everything is a lot of work—but I hope you’re enjoying the results.

One more honest note

I’ll admit that I do send more emails around the time of a new release. After that, things usually quiet down, and you might not hear from me again for a few months.
