From Snow Dogs to Strange New Worlds
Miley’s Snow Day
Puerto Vallarta has been in the news this week for all the wrong reasons. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by what happened there. It’s a place that means a lot to us — it’s where Miley’s story began.
Miley, our dog, was found in a garbage bag on the side of a road in Puerto Vallarta with five of her siblings. Their eyes were still closed. A local SPCA worker spotted the bag, brought them home, and took them to work the next day.
Three of her siblings also made it to BC. Miley arrived in October — probably wondering what she’d gotten herself into — but just a few months later, she was out playing in the snow like she’d been doing it her whole life.
She had a blast on Monday. Coat on, running, playing, tail up.
I share this because it connects to something I think about a lot as a writer. The stories we tell matter. Not every beginning has to define the ending. Sometimes the scary parts are just the first chapter — and the rest of the story is full of warmth, play, and a whole lot of snow.
What’s New
Lydia and I are continuing work on Vol. 2 of the Earth’s Secret Alliance series. As I mentioned in the last newsletter, the story is going to explore some harder moments this time around — but always with hope at the centre. Nobody’s having nightmares. That’s still the promise.
I’m also working on bringing some of these stories to the screen. More on that as things develop.
