Writers Block
Got writer’s block?
Hi, I’m Tony B. Richard.
When I started, there was no writer’s block; I couldn’t stop the ideas popping into my head while doing my other job. This is how you know you were born to write. But, when I sat down to write, I looked at history, since I write alternate history, and thought about what happened and why.
For these books, I looked up what happened in 1947.
I picked the year because that’s when the UFO reportedly crashed in Roswell; however, the sound barrier was also broken and microwaves were invented. So, I found ways to work that into my story “The Good, The Bad, and The Undecided”.
Now, that might not be helpful for other genres, but…
…the basic principle is to look at what’s happening around you. If your neighbors are fighting, guess what they are fighting about. You don’t have to be right; it’s just inspiration, a seed to grow a story in your head.
You see someone wearing something funny, make up a story about that.
But don’t use their names in your story; make something up, because it’s not their story you’re writing, they are just the inspiration for your story.
